When musicians refer to relationships or girls, do you think the relationship was always something serious?

I am always trying to relate to the music I listen to. I feel like a lot of artists write songs about long-term relationships that deeply affected them, but I don’t feel like I’ve ever experienced something close to what they imply in songs. Is it possible that they write about short flings, or even just crushes?
